Lake Sunapee: stone patio and lakeside gardens

This project greatly improved the connection between Lake Sunapee and the main house by adding stone walls to terrace a steep slope. Terracing created more useable space, allowing for the installation of a stone patio and hot tub. The patio, of native granite, provides a relaxing space with a wonderful view of Lake Sunapee. Much of the granite used to build the walls was found on-site.

Before dbLandscaping was hired, decks along the back of the house were too narrow. A new, larger deck was designed and built according to the client’s needs. New wooden stairs were also installed to provide access to a boathouse and dock. Informal stone paths along the hillside connect to the steps and provide a route for meandering through the lush landscape. The hillside itself- once too steep even for landscaping- has been improved with stone walls and extensive plantings of native shrubs and perennials. Plantings have been designed to look beautiful throughout the seasons.
