Lake Sunapee: landscaped entryway and garden
This project involved moving the driveway to improve privacy and lessen a steep grade. The new driveway is a more gradual slope, which greatly improves the rate of storm water runoff and ensures that runoff ends up in the soil where it can be reabsorbed. Because the house is situated on a steep slope, drainage was very important. dbLandscaping designed and implemented a plan for effectively dealing with stormwater runoff on the ground and from the roof.
A welcoming, garden-like front entry to the house was also added. The new entry helps to guide visitors into the house: a single access point directs the visitor to the house while also allowing access to a hidden secondary path that connects to the rear of the property where outdoor living and entertaining areas were built. The living/entertaining area includes beautiful, open views of Lake Sunapee while retaining a sense of privacy and protection.
Access to the lake was provided by granite steps set into the hillside. Flowering shrubs and perennials were added to provide multi-season interest. Landscape lighting was also incorporated to allow nighttime use of the patios and walkways.
